Privacy policy – footytipsnz.com

A football tips site has no reason to collect more than a small amount of personal information, and the practice here follows that. The Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles (section 22) apply.

Responsible agency

Whoever runs the site is the agency responsible for the personal information collected through footytipsnz.com. Name, address and e-mail are available at $$DOMAIN$$, and all questions about personal information go through that channel.

Collected information

Each time a page loads, a server log entry records the IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data sent, the referring page and the browser type. These entries support security and the spotting of abuse; after 90 days they are erased or shortened until they identify nobody. Writing to the editors means supplying a name, an e-mail address and a message, which are used for the reply only. With no reader accounts, deposits or bets on the site, no payment details or identity documents are collected.

Purposes and principles

Information is gathered for lawful purposes linked to the site: availability and security, replies to messages and, after a choice in the cookie banner, audience measurement (IPP 1). People are told what is collected and the reason (IPP 3), and it serves those aims only (IPP 10). Decisions are not automated and profiles are not built.

Service providers and transfer abroad

Sale of information does not happen. Hosts, content delivery services and e-mail handlers receive it as needed, as do public authorities when the law requires. Where a provider stores data outside New Zealand, disclosure abroad takes place only if the recipient has comparable safeguards or the person was informed and agrees, in line with IPP 12.

Security and retention

Information is guarded against loss and misuse by reasonable safeguards (IPP 5) and retained as long as its purpose lasts (IPP 9): server logs up to 90 days; correspondence until the matter is closed, with extra time to deal with any claim. A notifiable privacy breach, meaning one causing or likely to cause serious harm, goes to the Privacy Commissioner and to the people affected.

Access and correction

Anybody can ask what is held about them (IPP 6) or ask for it to be corrected (IPP 7). The reply comes as soon as reasonably practicable and at the latest within 20 working days of the request (section 40).

Complaints

Anyone who thinks their privacy has been breached may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
