Racing
Football tipsters rarely cover racing, yet the sport accounts for the oldest betting tradition in the country and for the history of TAB NZ itself. This section describes the terms racing punters use.
Horse racing, greyhounds and the Melbourne Cup are the subject. Fixed odds and tote pools are both on offer from TAB NZ, whose rules define a long list of bets: exacta and trifecta, first four and quinella, besides win, place and each way. A tote payout comes as a dividend.
Greyhound racing begins closing in stages on 1 August 2026, and overseas operators are barred from taking greyhound bets from that date. The Racing Integrity Board is the body overseeing racing.
